Many families are unprepared when a snowstorm hits. They end up having to go to the store and hardware store to load up on supplies. In order to prepare yourself for a snowstorm, you will need to get most of the supplies that you will need at least a month before the snow season comes around.

You can learn to plan ahead before the snow by purchasing a battery charger for your car. If you do not care to purchase a battery charger, you can purchase a brand new car battery and set it aside, so that when the snow comes, you will not be stranded. Make sure your car has plenty of oil and water in it. You may even consider taking your vehicle to a professional mechanic to make sure your car is running perfectly before the snow season. Purchase new tires and keep a spare in the trunk.

The electricity will more than likely go out during a snowstorm, so make sure that you have plenty of supplies on hand, such as bottled water, canned goods, diapers, and clean clothing. Do not use candles because they can cause a house fire. Stick with use flashlights. Purchase plenty of batteries, sot that you do not have to leave the house to purchase some.

Clean all of the clothing and bedding that you will need during the storm. You do not know how long you will be without electricity. You will want to make sure, you can at least have some clean clothing to put on for a week.

Consider bundling up in one room during the snowstorm. Purchase at least one kerosene heater and fill up two kerosene cans, so that you have at least a week's worth of heating. Since the electricity will be off, you will need some type of heat source, unless you have gas heating, which is much safer. Fill your gas heating tank with gas as soon as you can. Make sure your car is filled up as well just in case you have to leave the house for an emergency. Make sure you have a working radio in your home, so that you can listen to the weather report.
